The Royal Glasshouses - Laeken, Brussels

18th April - 8th May 2020

Although it's been more than a century since the Belgian royal family lived in it, the Royal Palace of Brussels remains the headquarters of the Belgian constitutional monarchy.

Every spring, the Royal Greenhouses of Laeken are open to the public for 3 weeks. It is an excellent opportunity to see the wonderful architecture of Alphonse Balat, the mentor of Victor Horta, and the many plants in the greenhouses.

The Royal Glasshouses were built by King Leopold II to accommodate his collection of plants from the Congo. The series of eleven massive greenhouses contain a selection of rare plants kept in peak condition by a team of 20 gardeners. These huge greenhouses, next to the Palace of Laeke, are stunning, there are so many in the grounds of the Palace that it’s like a huge glass city and the plants inside are meticulously looked after.

Our tours take in this fantastic visit and also combine it with other Floral and Horticultural events in the locality.

For 2020 we will be combining the visit to the Glasshouses with the Floralies. To take in both these events the dates of travel for a group need to be between the 1st and 10th May 2020.
